Decoding cannabis slang words

Components of the cannabis plant have been used to induce spiritual experiences, as a recreational drug, and for medicinal properties for thousands of years. While a person may have begun using cannabis to ease a medical condition’s symptoms, they find themselves immersed in the cannabis culture. It can seem intimidating initially, so instead of sounding like a hippie from the 1960s, learning the commonly used slang can enhance the overall cannabis experience.

Can I get some Ganja?

Cannabis is a genus of flowering plants with a variety of species that provide diverse results when consumed. The long-standing terms are weed, reefer, and ganja; however, nug, bud, dank, herb, and chronic also refer to the plant. The bud and the nug come from the flowering blossom at the top of the stalk that contains the highest concentration of cannabinoids. Premium cannabis is also known as dank or chronic with the latter referring to ongoing coughing with inhalation. The original Spanish name of marijuana is often avoided since it symbolizes stigmatization.

Take a hit off a joint or smoke a bowl?

After the cannabis is grown and harvested, the cannabinoids must be extracted and rendered into a consumable form. They can be dried, ground, and used in edibles or extracted and infused into oils and tinctures. Each process and accessory has their own language. Joints, blunts, and spliffs are all rolled cannabis, differentiated by their tobacco to cannabis ratio and the material of the rolling paper. Vaping has grown in popularity across the industry. The weed is vaporized to release the cannabinoids instead of combusted, theoretically easier on the respiratory system. A bong is tube-shaped with a water filtration pipe on the side that lets the user take large hits without wasting much of the smoke. Another device is a bowl, a spoon-shaped hand pipe into which the user packs the ground weed before lighting it to inhale from the end.

Concentrated versions of cannabis are commonly used. Dabs are portions of concentrated cannabis extracted from the raw plant and loaded into a dabbing rig to be vaporized, typically offering a higher potency.

Puff Puff Pass – Fitting Into the Culture

Inhaling in any form is called a hit. Puff puff pass is standard etiquette, meaning a person should never take more than two hits before passing it on in a shared sesh, or session. A dutchie is an old term that refers to one of the common blunt wraps, Dutch Master. See a business that is 420- or 710-friendly? That means they recognize the cannabis culture.
